Florida is a bird photographers haven and we will visit some of the most incredible spots known to this person who grew up in the state and knows many of the top spots for the best action. Roseate spoonbill, reddish egret, wood stork, black skimmers, osprey, and lots of other egret and heron varieties as well as plenty of gulls and shore birds will be featured each day we venture out. This workshop covers a wide variety of birds as well as locations with each one more exciting than the previous.

What you'll learn on this workshop:

• Flight photography techniques
• Learning to observe behavior patterns to help anticipate what will happen next to get peak action shots
• Sunrise and sunset exposure tips to bring out great colors
• Learning to read and use natural light to the best of your advantage

Highlights of the trip include a boat ride to a rookery in St. Petersburg with a large variety of birds just 10 to 15 yards away that usually includes roseate spoonbills, great blue herons, egrets, pelicans and more; a rookery in Orlando where we are just feet away from baby egrets and more; and Fort DeSoto Park, one of the top wading and shore bird photography locations in the country where a reddish egret is sure to show up and put on a great display. Numerous other top spots are also on the agenda that are sure to please even the most discriminating photographer. We will also visit a wood stork rookery, an opportunity in a setting unlike any other.

Opportunities will run the gamut. There will be a good mix of nest activity with babies ranging from being just out of the shell to close to fledging. Preening and displaying egrets and herons will show off their beautiful colors and plumage. Wonderful sunrise and sunset lighting will also offer beautiful shots.

By moving the trip back a bit, we will even have the chance to photograph adult pileated woodpeckers feeding the young at the nest and very small baby limpkin and gallinule.

Many of the locations we will visit are on the Great Florida Birding Trail and were visited and known about well before this trail and guide were ever established.

Some walking and potentially getting into the water with the birds in St. Petersburg will increase the opportunities of some great photographs but if you want to stay dry you will still be able to capture some great images. Migraroty song birds may also provide a bit of bright color to our shooting.

The goal of this trip is to put you in the best bird areas of Florida and teach you to take amazing photographs you will never forget. Expect to see thousands of birds as we go from destination to destination which have been specifically picked just to make this a great experience.

The Gulf Coast and Central Florida is a magical place and should you choose to join up on this trip you will not be disappointed as you will take home some memorable images of this bird photographer’s paradise. 

Due to the boat rentals, the trip is a bit higher than others but don't be swayed by this as it gets you on some great bird activity many others will only see photos of.
